Spoga horse 2021 cannot take place due to the pandemic

Equestrian industry is relying on new, innovative concept of the leading trade fair and looking optimistically ahead to the future of the next spoga horse from 5 to 7 February 2022.

The preparations for spoga horse 2021 were progressing well, however as a result of the ongoing rising number of infections around the world, the related lockdowns and international, strict travel restrictions, in close coordination with industry representatives it has been decided that spoga horse cannot be staged from 06.02.-08.02.2021. However, one jointly agreed to use this decision as an opportunity and to start with the implementation of the new, innovative concept for February 2022 now already by launching initial formats in the year 2021.

“The centrepiece of a trade fair is and will remain to be encounters and communications, this is also the case for spoga horse. It lives from the visitors, who travel to the fair from all over the globe and who contribute towards the quality of the trade fair. Due to the currently very dynamic infection situation and the related cancellations by exhibitors, we can no longer guarantee this quality. Of course, this decision was very difficult for us. However, it is now important to look positively ahead together with our partners. We are prepared to carry out our trade fairs with the highest safety and hygiene measures, to enhance them with digital concepts and bring them forward into the future,” said Oliver Freser, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse.

The participants of the spoga horse Industry Panel also regret this decision: “With a view to the current COVID-19 developments, we are supporting the decision to cancel spoga horse 2021. The reality has shown us that it is unfortunately not yet time for us to restart again. However, we want to look ahead to next year optimistically, especially in terms of new impulses and innovations for the equestrian industry. We are eagerly awaiting the new formats for 2021 and look forward to a joint spoga horse in Cologne in 2022,” said Michael Manefeld, Executive Director Waldhausen GmbH & Co. KG.

Innovations

Innovation and digitalisation are an important theme on the trade fair landscape particularly in the light of the current situation. The concept for spoga horse that Koelnmesse has drawn up is bringing this leading trade fair forward in big leaps and putting it on the right track. In addition to a new, digital tool for networking, which has been available to the registered exhibitors, trade visitors and media representatives since October 2020, there are going to be further innovations:

The spoga horse TOP INNOVATIONS distinction, the award ceremony of which will take place in the scope of a digital format in February 2021, underlines the importance of innovations, because this approach is also forward-looking and essential within the equestrian industry. As the innovative leading B2B trade fair for the international equestrian industry, spoga horse 2022 will take off with a new concept, which has received great approval within the industry.

Frank Hölscher, Managing Director of Josef Hölscher GmbH & Co. KG and Chairman of the Equestrian Sport Specialised Group of the German Association of the Sporting Goods Industry e.V. said: “The innovative concept that Koelnmesse has developed over the past weeks and months is future-oriented for the national and international equestrian industry. Due to the diverse and new approaches all sections and product groups of the industry are represented. Furthermore, the newly developed formats enable the possibility of individual presentation so that there is a suitable option for everyone among the formats.”

“We are really impressed by the presented new concept of spoga horse. The new alignment will allow the whole industry to tread totally new and more digital paths. This will support the increase of communication and information exchange. The start may be delayed as a result of the Corona pandemic, but we are confident that it will happen. The industry is pleased about this development,” said Andrea Rasia, CEO Prestige Italia.

The planning of the events in 2022 has already started. This also includes the further development of digital formats, which offer a suitable enhancement to the physical trade fair and which will partly be implemented in 2021 already. The next physical spoga horse is scheduled to take place at the Cologne fair grounds from 5 to 7 February 2022.
